How the numbers are worked out
Density
7 850 kg/m³ for steel, 8 000 for stainless, 2 700 for aluminium, 8 500 for brass and bronze.
Hollow sections
Corner radii are taken at 2.5 t outside and 1.5 t inside, which is standard cold-formed practice.
Rolled sections
UB, UC, PFC and IPE carry a published mass — use the table on the product page rather than the calculator.
Every figure is an estimate for ordering purposes. Design remains the responsibility of your engineer, and the rate the desk quotes is the rate that applies.
